From “American International Pictures” comes “Cooley High”, a critically acclaimed black “American Graffiti” with a hot Motown soundtrack and a solid cast. Set in early 1960's Chicago, this early “hood” film is a good depiction of the black urban lifestyle. Director Michael Schultz would later go on to make the glitzy martial arts classic, “The Last Dragon” (1985), a film that combined kung fu & Mowtown music to perfection. Over the years “Cooley High” has managed to develop a small following and is gradually approaching cult status.

And, "Cooley High" is a fine comedy/drama in the style of "American Graffiti" and "Breaking Away" starring Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs and Glynn Turman as high schoolers facing all manners of problems in the inner city.
