As you may have already guessed, my name is Tony & I have a passion for Teen Movies, new & old. I have watched them for as long as I can remember & this Website is dedicated to them. It gives me the opportunity to share with you my enjoyment & happy memories of these Movies. The aim of my Website is to provide you with information, pictures, posters, history, trivia, & the latest news on the most popular Teen Movies ever made. "Hollywood Teen Movies" will take you on a journey from the 1950's to the New Millennium.
The 1950's was the decade which marked the birth of the Hollywood Teen Movie. It was a period that launched the careers of Marlon Brando ("The Wild One"), James Dean ("Rebel Without A Cause") & Elvis Presley ("Jailhouse Rock"). It was also the decade that introduced Rock 'n' Roll music to Teen Movies. Who can forget the opening credits of "Blackboard Jungle" which featured Bill Haley's smash hit "Rock Around The Clock". In no time at all the song inspired a string of Teen Musicals such as "Don't Knock The Rock", "Shake Rattle and Rock", "Rock, Rock, Rock and the film that started it all, the original  "Rock Around The Clock". The 1960's marked the beginning of the Teen Beach Movies which made household names of stars like Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello & Fabian. It was also the decade of the famous & very popular "Gidget" film series."
The early 1970's were a slow period for Teen Movies, with one exception, George Lucas' "American Graffiti"(1973). Richard Dreyfuss leads the all-star cast in this classic tale about teens coming of age after high school graduation. The decade picked up towards the end with two John Travolta Dance Musicals , "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) & "Grease"(1978). More blockbuster Teen Movies followed "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978) starring John Belushi as Bluto, the unforgettable, vulgar & biggest slob of them all and "Meatballs" (1979), the first summer camp comedy starring Bill Murray. The end of the 1970's marked the beginning of the "Lemon Popsicle" (1979) series and paved the way for the teen sex comedies that would become popular in the 1980's.
The 1980's are considered by many to be "The Golden Age of Teen Movies" & this period is featured strongly on this Website. AIthough I was not yet a teenager in the 80's I still managed to see quite a few of these films at the cinema during this period. Those that I missed, I was fortunate enough to catch on video in my teenage years during the 90's. I have many pleasant  & happy memories of watching these films. The Teen Queen of the 1980's was Molly Ringwald. She was box office gold in teen hits such as "Sixteen Candles", "The Breakfast Club" & the unforgettable "Pretty In Pink". The man responsible for these and other classic Teen Movies during the 1980's was writer/director John Hughes. In 1986 Teen Movies and Teen Actors received world attention when Molly Ringwald had the honor of gracing the cover of Time Magazine.
During the 1980's there were literally hundreds of Teen Movies released.  Some of the Teen Classics of this era would have to include: Porky's, Back To The Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, Revenge of The Nerds, Risky Business, Can't Buy Me Love, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Some Kind of Wonderful, License to Drive, St. Elmo's Fire, The Karate Kid, The Last American Virgin and the list goes on & on.
The Teen films of the early 1990's were few & far between until 1995 when Alicia Silverstone exploded onto the screen in the box office smash hit "Clueless".  This film did not only catapult Alicia's career but sparked off a new wave of Teen Movies that have continued on into the New Millennium. In the late 90's Teen Movies flooded the Multiplexes. Films such as "10 Things I Hate About You", "She's All That", "Never Been Kissed", and the new Teen Movie franchise "American Pie" have all been big box office hits.
The new millennium kicked of well with the popular cheerleader comedy "Bring It On" and then moved into top gear with a number of big box office hits which included, "Road Trip", "Coyote Ugly," "Dude, Where's My Car", "Save The Last Dance", "Legally Blonde" and the teen movie spoof "Not Another Teen Movie". Even popular teen singers, Britney Spears and Mandy Moore,  joined the band wagon by starring in their own teen movies, "Crossroads" & "A Walk To Remember".  The teen movie genre today, is in a healthy state & looks to stay that way for a long time to come as Hollywood's new breed of young actors & actresses continue to strut their stuff on the Silver Screen.

Cult Movies and Blockbusters
Note: This website is a movie & actor database run by two film historians who love & appreciates movies as an artform. It has been created for the purpose of giving pleasure & enjoyment to other movie fans. A website such as this however, is very expensive to run & maintain. It is for this reason that we have sponsors.  The purpose of our sponsors is to generate a little income if possible. This income could help in a small way, to keep this site running, because sooner or later a site such as this will become too expensive to run & then sadly another movie site might bite the dust. Please use our sponsors & help keep "Hollywood Teen Movies" alive.
