Intriguing cinematic adaptation of Frederick Knott's play about a woman who slowly comes to realize that her husband is trying to murder her. In order to get his hands on his wife Margot's fortune, Tony hires a hitman to "break into" their apartment and kill her. But when Margot, thinking the man is a burglar, stabs him to death, Tony comes up with a new scheme: framing his spouse for first-degree murder.

Directed by the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock and originally shot in 3-D, "Dial M For Murder" is one of the best thrillers to come out of the 1950's. Ray Milland as the scheming husband and the beautiful Grace Kelly as the unsuspecting wife are outstanding and a pleasure to watch as the drama unfolds. "Dial M For Murder" was remade in 1998 and re-titled "A Perfect Murder". The new version starred Oscar winners Michael Douglas & Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead roles. "A Perfect Murder" is hard-edged, more explicit and relies on sensationalism to capture viewer attention but it is difficult to beat the original Hitchcock classic when it comes to outright suspense and performance. Both films are riveting entertainment and if you haven't seen either of them, my advice would be to watch the Hitchcock version first. "A Perfect Murder" is not an exact remake, there are plot variations and twists that add to the excitement.
