Eugene Lourie was already a veteran director of monster movies such as "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" (1953), "The Colossus of New York" (1958), and "Behemoth The Sea Monster" (1959) when he made "Gorgo", Britain's answer to the popular "Godzilla" dinosaur series. This film had the edge over many of the previous black & white monster flicks as it was shot in fabulous colour, there was no dubbing of voices and it boasted some of the best special effects at the time. The plot sees the big mother dinosaur going to London in search of her little baby dinosaur, leaving a trail of destruction in her path. Who can forget the destruction of famous London landmarks like Big Ben & London Bridge? "Gorgo" was made towards the end of the dinosaur craze and is possibly the best in the genre. The acting is above par and the music score is also quite good. "Gorgo" has got what it takes to appeal to all monster movie fans. If only they had of made a sequel, it could have been called, "Gorgo VS Godzilla", now what a movie that would haven been?
