Hercules Against The Moon Men: Tony's Comments
"Hercules Against The Moon Men" is an exciting action-filled entry in the Hercules genre. It is different to many of the others in that it combines science fiction with Greek mythology. Italian actor Sergio Ciani who would later become known as Alan Steel was not a newcomer to sword and sandal films. Sergio made small appearances in four peplum films (The Giant of Marathon, The Fury of Hercules, Samson And The Slave Queen, The Rebel Gladiators) before starring as Hercules in "Hercules Against The Moon Men". Sergio's popular portrayal of the Greek demigod in this film opened the doorway for further starring roles such as "Samson And The Mighty Challenge", "Hercules And The Treasure Of The Incas", "Hercules and The Black Pirates", "Hercules and The Masked Rider" and "Hercules Against Rome". Although many of Alan Steel's films had Hercules in the title he wasn't necessarily playing the traditional Herculean character but he was always a strongman action hero. Also, Alan tended to add a dash of humor to his he-man roles and played the characters somewhat tongue in cheek. "Hercules Against The Moon Men" is one of Alan Steel's personal best. It is the ultimate in cheesy fun, the metallic moon monsters look great, Alan Steel hams it up brilliantly and the action-packed stunts come thick and fast.
