"I Was A Teenage Werewolf" Tony's Comments:
Before Michael J. Fox got haired up in the 1980's comedy classic "Teen Wolf", a young Michael Landon (Little Joe from Bonanza) put on some Chewbacca fur to star as the original teen in wolf's clothing for the 50's sci-fi hair-raiser "I Was A Teenage Werewolf". This low budget gem from American International Pictures introduced Michael Landon and caused a stir with cinema audiences in 1957. Made on a shoestring budget of $82,000, it went on to gross a neat $ 2 million at the American box office. Not bad for a movie that was reportedly shot in only 7 days. This drive-in howler of a teen flick is well worth watching if only to get a glimpse of a young Michael Landon and see cheesy 1950's special effects at their best. "I Was A Teenage Werewolf" is not an easy film to track down but if you can get your hands on a copy you will have the privilege of witnessing for your self the transformation of a handsome young man into a hairy beast. This shaggy-dog story gone mad is a hoot of a film and deserves the title of "Campy Cult Teen Classic".
