"Jailhouse Rock" is Elvis Presley's most famous film. It is also considered by many critics & fans to be his best. Elvis looks great & the outstanding movie soundtrack is arguably his best.
Elvis plays troubled young man, Vince Everett, who is accused of manslaughter & sent to prison. While in jail he is introduced to music by fellow inmate Mickey Shaughnessy. He learns to sing & play a guitar & together with Mickey they become the stars of the prison sing-alongs.
When he is released from the slammer Elvis decides to become a rock "n" roll singer. With Mickey as his manager Elvis' exciting new sound is unleashed to the country. As Elvis becomes more popluar Mickey becomes jealous of his talent & conflicts arise.
The unforgettable title song "Jailhouse Rock" is brilliantly performed by Elvis & the energetic dance sequence which accompanies his most famous song was choreographed by the man himself. It is one of the most classic examples of music & dance in motion picture history. It is still played on music programs today & many consider it to be the first music video ever made.
"Jailhouse Rock" is just one of many great songs in this movie. The film features probably one of the best soundtracks ever put on celluloid, including: "Baby I Don't Care", Don't Leave Me Now, "I Wanna Be Free", "One More Day", "Treat Me Nice", & the wonderful ballad "Young & Beautiful".
Sadly, Elvis' love interest in the film Judy Tyler was killed in car accident not long after the film's release.
The film was originally shot in black & white but a computerised color version is sometimes shown on network television. Watch out for it.
Jailhouse Rock is riveting entertainment featuring the King of Rock "n" Roll, Mr. Elvis Presley in his prime. Elvis gives a tough, energetic acting & singing performance, one that film fans will not want to miss.
