FILM REVIEW :
"Rat Race" was made on a big-budget featuring a star-studded cast & high-speed stunts. It could be best described as "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" for the new millennium. It also resembles the fast-pace & crazy nature of "The Cannonball Run" series. The introductory credit sequence of "Rat Race" is a hoot, combining real-life pictures of the cast with animation in a unique way.
"Rat Race" is about a bunch of oddball characters, thrown together by chance, & given the opportunity to race against time to a little town in New Mexico to pick up a kitty worth $2 million dollars. The money is stashed in a locker & each team has the key to the prize. All modes of transport, road, rail & air are featured in this cross-country road trip full of hit & miss hi-jinks.
The misadventures of "Rat Race's" bumbling madcap characters (Rowan Atkinson, Jon Lovitz, Cuba Gooding Jr, John Cleese, & Whoppi Goldberg) should keep you entertained for most of the film's running time. Also along for the ride are the two stars from "Road Trip", Breckin Meyer & Amy Smart.
"Rat Race" even has a couple of surprise cameos. Look out for Lois & Clarke's Dean Cain as the cheating boyfriend & pop stars "Smash Mouth" make an appearance in the film's charity ball finale. Made on a budget of $48 million the film grossed $56 million on its initial US release. "Rat Race" is an old-fashioned slapstick comedy that should appeal to people of all ages.
