Tony's Comments :
"Samson & Delilah", directed by the great Cecil B. DeMille, is the legendary biblical tale of the mighty strongman who could defeat lions with his bare hands & the seductress that vowed to discover his weakness & rob him of his strength. Victor Mature was an excellent choice for the lead role of Samson. Other actors considered were Burt Lancaster & the mighty Steve "Hercules" Reeves in his pre-Herculean days. Hedy Lamarr, as the infamous seductress Delilah, in possibly her greatest role ever, was also an excellent casting choice. Like all Cecil B. DeMille films "Samson & Delilah" was produced on an epic-scale. In two of the film's showstoppers we see Samson, armed with only the jawbone of an ass, defeat a philistine army & in the grand finale we see Samson pull down the pagan temple, destroying his enemies. Although remade on a number of occasions, Cecil B. DeMille's 1949 version of "Samson & Delilah" still remains the definitive re-creation of the famous story.
