Tarzan, the big screen's original action hero returns in the form of Olympic swimmer, Larry "Buster" Crabbe. This Tarzan adventure tale about lost cities and hidden treasure was originally released as a 12-chapter serial. In its day "Tarzan The Fearless" was a pretty ambitious project considering it came along hot on the heels of Johnny Weissmuller's extremely popular "Tarzan The Apeman" (1932). Buster could not dethrone Weissmuller, even though this was his second venture into the jungle. In the previous year Buster starred in a Tarzan imitation flick titled "King Of The Jungle", where he played a Tarzan-like character called Kasta The Lion Man. "Tarzan The Fearless" has dated somewhat by today's standards but it is still an enjoyable old-fashioned jungle adventure. The athletic Buster Crabbe does a fair job in the title role, despite minimal dialogue and a poorly designed loincloth (particularly when viewed from behind). "Tarzan The Fearless" was Buster Crabbe's first and only appearance as Tarzan, and it did win him some notice but his claim to fame was yet to come as comic book space hero Flash Gordon.
