Made at the height of the 1980's sword and sandal craze and hot on the heels of Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan The Barbarian" came "The Beastmaster", an action-packed fantasy adventure with a hero that possessed a special ability. After nearly 10 years of TV performances Marc Singer was introduced to cinemagoers on the big-screen as Dar, the Dr. Dolittle of Sword and Sandal flicks. After his father and later his caretaker are both killed, Dar discovers that he has the uncanny ability to communicate with animals. Dar sets out on a quest and uses his newfound skills to find the people responsible for the murder of his loved ones. Tanya Roberts of "Sheena" fame comes along for the ride as his love interest and helps him on his mission of vengeance. Although only moderately successful at the box office, "The Beastmaster" went on to find a new audience on the video market. Today, "The Beastmaster" has reached cult status, 2 movie sequels, "Beastmaster 2: Through The Portal Of Time" (1991) & "Beastmaster 3: The Eye Of Braxus" (1996) were produced together with a TV series that ran from 1999-2002. Marc Singer reprised his role in all of them.
