The Bourne Supremacy is the second of Robert Ludlums best-selling trilogy that began with The Bourne Identity, which was filmed in 2002. Ludlum died in 2001, but a fourth book, The Bourne Legacy, by author, Eric Van Lustbader, releases this year to coincide with the second movie. Replacing Doug Liman as director is Paul Greengrass who made the powerful Bloody Sunday.
Matt Damon reprises his role as CIA trained assassin, Jason Bourne and the movie plunges into the dark world of espionage, CIA plots, turncoat agents and ever-shifting covert alliances as he tries to find the truth behind his own fragmented past.
When the Chinese vice-premier is brutally murdered, the assassin makes it known that Bourne is the killer. But Jason Bourne is just the cover for agent David Webb (Damon) and the CIA, knowing his innocence, is thrown into turmoil. The assassination creates a diplomatic crisis between China and the USA so Webb/Bourne has to find the impostor to ease the escalating tension between the two countries.
