At the Academy Awards & Golden Globe Awards Gary Busey was nominated for the "Best Actor" award. Although he didn't win at these awards Busey did go on to clean up at other award ceremonies winning, "Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles" at the "British Academy Film Awards", and "Best Actor" at the "National Society of Film Critics Awards". Also of interest is that "The Buddy Holly Story" had the honour of winning the Academy Award for "Best Music".
