The Time Machine: Cinema Synopsis
Alexander Hartdegen is a scientist and inventor who is determined to prove that time travel is possible. His determination is turned to desperation by a personal tragedy that drives him to want to change the past. He builds a time machine of his own invention that hurtles him 800,000 years into the future. There he finds a post-apocalyptic world where he discovers that mankind has been divided into the hunter... and the hunted.
The Time Machine: Tony's Comments
"The Time Machine" is a remake of George Pal's 1960 movie that starred Australian actor Rod Taylor. In this adaptation of the H.G. Well's novel, another Australian actor, Guy Pearce, is the time traveller that attempts to use his time machine to save the life of his finance. When he travels back in time to prevent her death he is unsuccessful and then travels 800,000 years into the future in search of a solution to his problem. Samantha Mumba one of Ireland's most successful young singers is Pearce's co-star. Her real-life brother Omero Mumba also has a small role. "The Time Machine" is directed by Simon Wells, the great-grandson of H.G. Wells, the writer of the famous sci-fi novel upon which this movie is based. It is reported that towards the end of filming, director Simon Wells, was suffering from extreme exhaustion and was replaced by Gore Verbinski for the last couple of weeks of shooting. Look out for Alan Young, the actor who played Filby in the original 1960 version, in a small cameo as a flower shop proprietor. This new update is an entertaining remake which features some spectacular special effects sequences, in particular, the battle against the Morlock's which in this version are a much faster and more ferocious creature than in the original. Like the charming original did in its day, this new hi-tech version of "The Time Machine" should please the new generation of cinemagoers.
