The Lizzie McGuire Movie is based on the Disney Channel TV series that began in 2001 and told of the trials and tribulations of its teenage title character. Its twist was that the inner thoughts of Lizzie (Hilary Duff) were expressed in sequences that featured an animated version of herself.
Originally entitled Ciao, Lizzie! the big screen adventure takes Lizzie and her friends to Rome after their graduation. Looking forward to experiencing the sweet life with their pal are Gordo, Kate and Ethan, played by the series original stars, Adam Lamberg, Ashlie Brillault and Clayton Snyder.
A string of events begins when Lizzie is mistaken for Isabella, a girl from an Italian pop duo. Then she begins to fall for Isabellas ex-boyfriend, the handsome pop star, Paolo (Yani Gellman), which prompts her parents (Robert Carradine and Hallie Todd) and her annoying brother, Matt (Jake Thomas) to jump onto a plane and join her.
Friendships and feelings change as Lizzie moves from awkward teen to beauty, and events turn the friends search for la dolce vita into something more surprising than they expected.
