Honey Daniels (Jessica Alba) is a girl who has all the right moves, but the only people who ever see what she can do with them are the regulars who watch her strut her stuff at the bar where she works at night with her best friend and biggest fan, Gina (Joy Bryant) and the kids she teaches in her hip-hop classes by day.
When a top music video director, Michael Ellis (David Moscow) catches a glimpse of her in action, he hires her to be a back-up dancer for his latest clip and its not long before Honey is choreographing his videos and mingling with some of the hottest talent in town.
Honeys career is on the rise and getting better every day. Shes attracted the attention of a good looking barber called Chaz (Mekhi Phifer) and a group of street kids who now see her as cool - notably the youngest of them, the lonely Raymond (Zachary Isaiah Williams). Shes even won over the hard-earned respect of Raymonds older brother, Benny (Lil Romeo) whos been mixing with the wrong crowd. Benny begins to take an interest in the hip-hop classes - especially when Honey convinces Michael to let some of her kids take part in his next video. Honeys on a roll until Michael makes a move of his own on her and everything comes to a halt. Another choreographer replaces her, the kids are let go and Benny drifts back into his bad old ways - and into trouble.
But Honey is not down and the dance goes on. She shares her passion with the talented kids, offering them something more than life on the streets and in a classic movie tradition that goes back to old MGM musicals
they decide to put on a show!
